One of my earliest memories is of the Lilac bush in my Nana’s garden next door. I must have been only three or four but I clearly remember the sweet scent and watching the endless stream of butterflies landing on the purple flowers.

I’ve loved gardening since I was a teenager when my green-fingered Mum gave me a patch in the garden to call my own. Here in this sunny little spot, I grew sunflowers, nasturtiums, violas and of course a few weeds for good measure!

My career background was originally  hotel management followed by a number of years working in sales & marketing. Over the last few years I studied horticulture and floristry by night and loved every minute of it. Now I’m a ‘freelance florist’ specialising in wedding flowers and I can’t think of a nicer job!

When it comes to flowers, I tend to prefer a more natural approach to floral design. I like to use garden-style flowers but include varieties that you’re not going to find in most Irish gardens. However I aim to please and if a bride wishes to include a particular flower in her bouquet I’ll be more than happy to source it and incorporate it into the design.

One of my plans for Lilac & Fern is to grow as many of the flowers and foliage for my designs as I can, hopefully starting this year with some sweetpeas, poppies, nigella and other pretty summer flowers.
